The matchups for the 2025 Toyota Holiday Classic basketball event scheduled for next month at Hopkinsville High School’s Tiger Gym have been announced.
A news release from Hopkinsville High School Athletic Director Jacob Ezell on Tuesday morning said the event will begin Thursday, Dec. 11 and run through Sunday, Dec. 14.
Thursday night’s games will tip off at 5:30 and will feature the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers against Caldwell County. That game will be followed at 7 p.m. by the Christian County Lady Colonels against Portland, Tenn.
The final game of the opening night will feature Prolific Prep (Fla.) against Winston Salem, N.C., at 8:30.
Kerry Stovall, the Christian County Public Schools activities director and district athletic director, was a guest on Tuesday’s Early Bird Show and said this year’s lineup of prep schools will include some of the top Division-I prospects in the country.
Stovall said having the prep schools be part of the event shows local athletes what the next level of basketball looks like.
The Friday, Dec. 12, schedule features Huntington Expression Prep (W.Va.) vs. Winston Salem (N.C.) at 5:30, followed at 7 by Ridley College (Canada) against Pople John Paul (Tenn.) In the nightcap, Lyon County will take on Florida Coastal Prep at 8:30.
The Saturday, Dec. 13 games begin at 11 a.m. with Bowling Green meeting Florida Coastal Prep. At 12:45 p.m., Hamilton Heights (Tenn.) will take on Huntington Expression Prep.
Christian County will take the floor at 2:30 p.m. to meet Evangel Christian, which is coached by former Hopkinsville coach Larry Miller. At 4:15, Academy of Central Florida is scheduled to play DNA Prep (California). Hopkinsville will play Todd County Central at 6:30 p.m.
Sunday’s games begin at 11 a.m. and will include two games featuring four of the prep teams.
Stovall said he wants the event to become more like the Marshall County Hoopfest. He said the new Christian County High School, with its two gyms, will help grow the tournament.
Stovall also added that with the addition of an auxiliary gym at the new high school, there would be opportunities for a bigger event and more opportunities for other sports in the future.
All games played in this year’s Toyota Holiday Classic will be played at Hopkinsville High School. Ticket prices will be announced at a later time.
