A deep and talented Christian County High School baseball team will take aim at a District 8 and Region 2 title this spring in its final season before consolidating with Hopkinsville High School next spring.
Veteran Head Coach Cole Isom points to a strong pitching staff as the key component to helping the Colonels improve on last year’s 15-15 team that finished runner-up to University Heights Academy in the District 8 title game.
Leading the way on the hill for the Colonels include junior Eddie Davis, sophomore Nolan Young, senior Sebastian Dazey, senior Gage Montes, and senior Drew Fincham. In addition, the Colonels got some key transfers from Hopkinsville including the Tigers’ ace senior Andrew Mayes, junior Gavin Mitchell, junior Dylan Sweeney, and freshman Deuce Embrey.
Davis battled injuries a year ago but still went 5-2 with a 2.23 ERA. He struck out 57 batters. Young also had a good year in 2025, going 2-3 with a 2.49 ERA and 51 strikeouts.
Fincham and Dazey both had ERA’s below 2.00.
Throw in Mayes (3-6, 1.80 ERA) and Mitchell (3-3, 4.62 ERA) and the Colonels have an impressive starting rotation.
Mayes also will share catching duties with junior Layton Creamer.
The defense behind the pitchers also will be impressive, as Montes, Dazey, senior Blake Boehman, Davis, and sophomore Preston Stokes will be joined by Hoptown transfers Mitchell, Sweeney, junior Chase Fort, junior Layton Lindsey, and sophomore Griffen Meacham.
With that much talent, Isom said he doesn’t know what his opening day lineup will look like. He says his team is deep and versatile and fans could see a lot of different lineups this season.
The Colonels figure to challenge UHA for the District 8 and Region 2 titles this season. Christian County won two of three meetings with the Blazers a year ago.
Isom said Christian County would be playing one of the toughest schedules in the state with games against perennial regional powers like UHA, Henderson County, and Lyon County. He also has games against South Warren, Bowling Green, Marshall County, and McCracken County among others.
The schedule also includes games against Hoover, Ala. (31st ranked in nation) and Farragut, Ala. (42nd nationally), Fishers, Ind., and Avon, Ind.
Isom said preseason work and the two scrimmages have shown that the Colonels are in for their final season in school history.
The Colonels were scheduled to open the season today at Trigg County but the game was postponed due to cold weather. They are scheduled to play at McCracken County on Tuesday.
