Crittenden County and Heritage Christian Academy tangled in the All “A” Region Volleyball Tournament Saturday morning in Warrior Gym.
The Lady Rockets claimed a 2-1 win in a match that was tightly contested in all three sets. Crittenden advanced to the finals with a 25-22, 26-28, 25-23 win over the Lady Warriors (7-4).
In the first set, HCA jumped out to a 7-3 lead but Crittenden reeled the Lady Warriors in and took a 13-12 advantage. The two teams traded leads the rest of the match before a 4-0 run gave the Lady Rockets a 19-15 lead. HCA battled back to tie the score at 21-21 but Crittenden pulled away for a 25-22 win.
The second set was almost a repeat of the first, as HCA took a 7-3 lead only to see the Lady Rockets come back to tie the score 8-8. The two teams traded leads the rest of the set with Crittenden taking a 24-23 lead. However, HCA took five of the next six points to tie the match.
In the third and final set, Heritage jumped out to a 4-0 advantage and pushed its lead to 6-1 to force a Crittenden timeout. Trailing 10-3, the Lady Rockets went on a 10-2 run to grab a 13-12 advantage.
The team again went back and forth before a loud and spirited crowd. Heritage took its final lead at 20-19 and the teams were tied for the final time at 22-22. The Lady Rockets then scored three of the next four to win the match.
Mya Goodwin led the Lady Warriors with 28 kills, two aces and 16 digs. Grace Conley added five kills, two digs and a block. Hadlee Hayes provided three kills, 19 assists, one ace and 14 digs, and Katie Cansler had three kills and 20 digs.
Makenzie McCarty also had a strong game for HCA with two kills, 10 assists, and four digs.
The Lady Rockets defeated Fort Campbell in the finals for the Region 2 All “A” Volleyball Tournament title.
HCA returns to action Tuesday at McLean County.
