Round two of the annual basketball rivalry between the Hopkinsville and Christian County high schools will take place tonight at Lyle Dunbar Gym on Kerry Stovall Court.
Christian County swept the first games on Jan. 9 at Tiger Gym. The Lady Colonels defeated Hopkinsville 68-29. The Colonels surprised the Tigers 73-69 in a back-and-forth contest.
Tonight’s girls’ game is set to tip off at 6 p.m. and Lady Colonels’ coach Kiki Radford said she expects Hopkinsville to want some revenge.
In the first game, Anaysia Bagwell scored 25 points and Ne’Vaeh Day added 18 as the Lady Colonels were never threatened.
Hopkinsville is led by seniors Alicia Davis, LaShanti Wilson, and LeeLee Love and enters the game with a 6-7 record. Christian County is 12-8.
Meanwhile, first-year Colonels coach Dior Curtis said he knows Hoptown wasn’t happy about losing the District 8 seeding game earlier this month on their home court and he expects a different Tiger squad tonight.
In the first game, Na’Darien Rowe scored a season-high 31 points to lead the Colonels, who enter the game 4-14.
Hopkinsville is led by James Bradley Jr., Jonathan Hart, and Jonovan Leavell and enter the game at 6-12.
Hoptown Coach Anthony Babb said his team just needs to make a few adjustments and have fun.
The boys’ game is scheduled to tip off about 15 minutes following the conclusion of the girls’ game.
Airtime for the games is 5:45 p.m. with the Hopkinsville version on Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP and the Christian County version on 95.3 The Farm.
