The Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Tournament begins today in Lexington and Hopkinsville and Christian County high schools will be well represented.
The Colonels are sending seven wrestlers and one alternate to the meet, including Region 1 champion at 144 pounds, Dane Miller.
Other Colonels who will be competing for a state title include Tay Martinez (165 pounds), DeAsian Harris (190), Anthony Velasco (113), Kevondre Young (126), Deacon Harrison (150) and Treshan Crenshaw (285). Isaiah Davidson will be making the trip as an alternate at the 215-pound division.
The Colonels finished third place in the Region 1 tournament behind top-ranked Union County and second-ranked Paducah Tilghman.
Christian County coach Dee Leavell said he thinks his team is wrestling well at the right time of the year.
Hopkinsville will be sending two wrestlers to the state tournament, including Jaylin Littleton, who enters the state tournament with a 25-2 record in the 165-pound division. He finished second place in the Region 1 tournament last weekend.
Juan Cannon will be wrestling in the 120-pound division for the Tigers.
Hoptown coach Robert Bussell said both wrestlers should have a successful run at the state tournament.
Weigh-in is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Central Time with wrestling to begin at 10 a.m. The tournament will wrap up Saturday afternoon.
