Southern Lanes in Hopkinsville will be the host site for a prestigious Junior Gold Qualifier youth bowling tournament Sunday.
Amanda Windle, who is the Heritage Christian Academy bowling coach, said this tournament will give youths from around the area and in surrounding states a chance to qualify for the Junior Golds Tournament July 11-18 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Windle said many times the qualifying tournaments are too far away and too expensive for local bowlers to attend. She worked with Don Linton, the owner of Southern Lanes, and they wanted to bring a qualifier to Hopkinsville to help the local bowlers have a chance to reach the Junior Gold Qualifier.
The tournament also is a chance to do some fundraising to help with the cost of travel to the national tournament.
HCA bowlers Alayna Windle and Braelyn Windle already have qualified for the Junior Golds Tournament in Green Bay. Chase Lantrip, of Caldwell County, and a youth bowler from Clarksville also have qualified.
Windle said this area has never had that many bowlers at the Junior Golds and this tournament could allow three more to advance.
Windle said there are 30 bowlers signed up for the tournament and the goal is 50. The maximum participation for the tournament is 70.
Bowlers do not have to be part of a high school team and can register to bowl the day of the tournament. They would have to have a USBC Sanctioned Card and a Junior Bowlers Sanctioned Card, however Windle said bowlers can sign up for those before the tournament starts.
Check in for the tournament is 8:45 a.m. on Sunday with bowling to start at 9:30 a.m.
