A goal in the final minute of play by Lidkopings FK of Sweden resulted in a 1-0 loss for the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers in their tournament game at the Gothia Cup on Thursday.
The loss eliminated the Lady Blazers from play in the tournament played in Gothinburg.
The game was played in unusually warm temperatures and water breaks were held in both halves. The extra stoppage created opportunities for coaches to make some adjustments.
It appeared the game was heading to overtime penalty kicks until Lidkopings FK was able to find a gap in the Lady Blazers’ defense and find the corner of the net with 32 seconds remaining.
The team will travel to London for several days of sightseeing before returning home to Hopkinsville.
