The Hopkinsville Tigers advanced to the Region 2 Soccer Tournament semifinals for the first time since 2022 with a 4-2 victory over Hopkins County Central Tuesday night in Henderson.
Four different Tigers scored on the night and helped Hoptown advance to play Henderson County at 7:30 p.m. tonight. Henderson routed Lyon County 8-0 in the first quarterfinal match on Tuesday.
Jason Macario, Rayan Bernal, Mikel Ramirez, and Erick Hernandez all found the back of the net for the Tigers, who improved to 12-6-1 on the season.
Alex Rameirez had three assists and Mikel Ramirez also had an assist.
The Tigers were nursing a 3-2 lead with 33 minutes left before a late goal gave them some breathing room.
Raul Rivera stopped four shots in goal for Hopkinsville.
Hopkins County Central saw its season end at 10-8-0. The Storm had knocked off Hoptown 5-4 in the regular season.
Hopkinsville and Henderson’s semifinal match tonight will follow the first semifinal featuring University Heights Academy (16-6) against Madisonville-North Hopkins (7-10-1) at 5:45 p.m.
Henderson County (9-10) knocked off the Tigers 5-2 during the regular season. Meanwhile, UHA opened the season with a 4-2 victory over the Maroons.
The championship match is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Henderson County High School.
