Lady Tigers down Storm for final regular season win

The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers played their final regular season volleyball match in school history Tuesday night and defeated the visiting Hopkins County Central 3-1.

The Lady Tigers honored seniors Nathalie Hernandez, Lainey Stewart, and Elaina Chaudoin before the match. Chaudoin suffered an injury that prevented her from playing her senior season, but she remained with the team in a managerial role.

Hoptown improved to 6-20 on the season with four of those wins coming in the last two weeks.

On Tuesday, the Lady Storm captured the first set 25-13 before Hopkinsville rallied to take the second set 27-25. The final two sets also were close with the Lady Tigers grabbing 25-23 and 25-21 wins to take the match.

Madysen Taggart had 14 kills and Alayna King had 18 assists and five aces to pace the Lady Tigers. Brooke Stewart had eight digs, an ace, and two kills and Sammy Walker had four kills.

Hoptown will open District 8 Tournament play Monday at 5:30 against University Heights Academy at 5:30 p.m. at Christian County High School.
