The dream run by the Hopkinsville High School boys’ soccer team came to an end Wednesday night at host Henderson County.
The Colonels scored four goals in the second half and eliminated Hopkinsville from the Region 2 Soccer Tournament semfinals, 7-1.
Henderson improved to 10-10 on the season and will play UHA (17-6) at 7 p.m. tonight for the region championship. The two teams met last month at UHA with the Blazers winning 3-1.
Henderson took a 3-0 lead in the first half before Hoptown’s Alex Rameirez scored on an assist from Mikel Ramirez. The score stood at the halftime.
However, the defending region champion Colonels scored four times in the second half and quickly turned the game into a rout.
Raul Rivera stopped eight shots on the night.
For the Tigers, who earned the top seed and won the District 8 tournament, the loss signaled the end of the program.
Head Coach Aaron Hutchinson said on social media that he was thankful for the opportunity to coach the Tigers.
“This was a dedicated bunch of hard working young men,” Hutchinson said. “I’m thankful to all the seniors. Your dedication has brought our program back to a respectable level.”
Hoptown’s final season sees the Tigers finish 12-7-1 and a perfect 6-0 against district opponents.
Hopkinsville and Christian County high schools will consolidate for the fall of 2026.
