Tipler resigns as Hopkinsville High baseball coach

Hopkinsville High School is searching for a new head baseball coach heading into its final season.

Hopkinsville High School Athletic Director Jacob Ezell told WHOP sports on Friday morning that Malcolm Tipler had resigned as the school’s baseball coach.

“I want to thank him for the four years he’s poured into our program and I wish him good luck on his future endeavors,” Ezell said.

Tipler told WHOP sports today that he was thankful for the opportunity to coach the Hopkinsville Tigers’ program.

“I appreciate Hopkinsville High School, the baseball program, the players, and the administration for the opportunity to coach here,” Tipler said. “It was a lot of fun and I am thankful to Dave (Weber), (Jacob) Ezell, and (Blake) Leach for all they’ve done for me.”

Tipler joined the Hoptown coaching staff and was an assistant for David Weber for two seasons. He took over the program in 2024 and led the Tigers to the 2024 Region 2 championship and a berth in the KHSAA State Baseball Tournament quarterfinals where they fell to Owensboro Catholic, 2-1.

Last season the Tigers were eliminated by University Heights Academy in the first round of the District 8 Tournament.

In his two seasons with the Tigers, Tipler led the team to a 35-25 record.

It’s a tough blow to a program that is struggling to field a team in the 2026 season, which will be the final in the history of the high school. The team lost several players by transfer to Christian County during the offseason.

“We had a great run here at Hoptown, but with all the uncertainty, I just felt like now was the right time for my career and that’s what really factored into my decision,” Tipler said. “There’s no ill will in my decision.”
