The final fall athletic seasons for both Christian County and Hopkinsville high schools are in the books after last Friday night’s football loss by the Hopkinsville Tigers in the Class 6-A playoffs.
Now the attention turns to filling the head coaching jobs for soccer, golf, volleyball, cross country, and football for the new Christian County High School Tigers.
Christian County Public Schools Superintendent Chris Bentzel was a guest on the Early Bird Show Monday morning and said all of the jobs have been posted and interviews would begin soon.
The job most of the community is following is football.
Christian County’s Ethan Atchley resigned at the midpoint of the 2025 season and turned the program over to assistant Kelly Myers who coached the Colonels to a 1-9 record. The school opted out of the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Dustin Lopez led Hopkinsville to a 7-5 record and picked up a home win in the playoffs.
Bentzel said the timeline is to have a coach for soccer, volleyball, cross country, and band by the first week of December and he hopes there will be a football coach hired by mid-December.
A search for the Christian County Tigers’ wrestling, girls’ and boys’ basketball, and swimming coaches will begin as soon as the winter seasons end.
