Times, dates set for District 8 basketball tournaments

The dates and times for the last District 8 Basketball Tournaments as we know them were finalized Wednesday morning at Hopkinsville High School.

The girls’ tournament will begin at 6 p.m. Monday night with No. 2 seed Hopkinsville (1-16) taking on No. 3 seed Fort Campbell (3-8) at Tiger Gym.

The Lady Tigers are on a 13-game losing streak since beating the Lady Falcons 65-32 in December.

The winner of Monday night’s game will face the top seed Christian County Lady Colonels (12-9) at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in the championship game at Tiger Gym.

The Lady Colonels have automatically qualified for the Region 2 Tournament. The district runner-up also will advance to the Region 2 Tournament at Hopkins Central.

The boys’ tournament will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday night at Tiger Gym with top seed Hopkinsville (15-13) taking on fourth seed Fort Campbell (8-16).

The two teams met in December with the Tigers winning 92-36.

The second semifinal will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday night with No. 2 seed Christian County (12-11) facing No. 3 seed University Heights Academy (7-15).

The Colonels defeated the Blazers last week 75-65.

The boys’ championship game will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Tiger Gym with both the winner and runner-up advancing to the Region 2 Tournament in Madisonville.

Tickets each night will be $10 cash only and can be purchased at the ticket windows in front of the gym. Children ages 5-and-under will be admitted free. No coaches or officials cards for those not working the games will be honored during the tournament.

There also is a strict no bags or purses allowed policy and everyone entering the gym will go through weapon detectors.

This year’s tournament is the last for Hopkinsville High School and the Christian County Colonels. The two schools will consolidate next year to make the Christian County Tigers.
