The Christian County Colonels bid a final farewell to Lyle Dunbar Gym Tuesday night with a 64-47 boys’ high school basketball win over Todd County Central.
The Rebels led 12-5 after one quarter, but the Colonels turned up the defense and dominated the boards the rest of the way to pick up the victory.
Christian County turned up the pressure in the second quarter and outscored Todd 23-10 to take a 28-22 advantage into the break.
The Rebels’ bench was limited due to injuries and the Colonels took advantage of fatigue and sprinted out to a 54-35 lead after three quarters.
Rahsean Stevenson scored 19 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead the Colonels to their sixth straight victory on Senior Night. Seniors Zyon Wharton and Darren Bigbee each added 10 points.
Todd Central (7-22) was led by Conner Holder, who made seven 3-pointers and scored 23 points. JR Cardwell added 10 points for the Rebels.
It was a busy night for the Colonels, who also crowned Dashiya Leavell as homecoming queen and K’Veon Ivory as homecoming king.
It was the final home game in the history of the Colonels’ program. For history’s sake, the last Colonel to score in a varsity basketball game in the gym was Leyton Coker and the last player to score in the gym was Todd County Central’s Cardwell, who hit a late 3-pointer.
Christian County completes its regular season Thursday night at Logan County. Airtime for the game is at 7:30 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
