For Heritage Christian Academy senior soccer player Kallan Davis, Thursday was a day he thought might never come.
Davis signed a national letter-of-intent to play for Union Commonwealth University during a ceremony Thursday afternoon at Warrior Gym.
While Davis was part of the Warriors’ program for eight seasons, his senior season was in doubt as the school struggled to find enough players and almost weren’t able to field a team. At the last minute, the school was able to find enough players and he finished the year with 10 goals despite being the focus of every team’s defense.
Davis said he knew his experience with club ball would be the biggest factor in getting a chance to play college soccer.
Davis’ best season at HCA came during his junior campaign when he scored 27 goals. He had eight goals as a sophomore.
The 5-foot-6 midfielder said the recruiting process has been stressful, but a visit to Union felt like the perfect place for him.
Warriors’ Assistant Soccer Coach Bobby Spurling said Davis has been a special player in the Warriors’ program.
Davis plans to study business finance in college.
