CCHS’s Bagwell signs basketball letter with Berea College

Christian County High School basketball player Anaysia Bagwell began playing basketball at age 7 and always had a dream of playing in college.

On Thursday afternoon, that dream became a reality.

Bagwell signed a letter-of-intent to play for Berea College during a ceremony Thursday afternoon in the high school library in front of family, friends, teammates, and coaches.

The 5-foot-5 senior guard said she was excited about the opportunity to extend her playing career, but she wasn’t done yet.

Bagwell began her varsity career as a seventh grader and scored 2,329 points in her career. According to members of the Lady Colonels’ coaching staff, Bagwell is the second leading scorer in school history, trailing only former Miss Basketball Arnika Brown. She led the team to four district championships, two runner-ups, and six region tournament appearances. She earned All-District and All-Region multiple years.

Bagwell also was named to the All-State Academic Team all six years with a grade point average higher than 3.75 each year.

Lady Colonels’ Head Coach Kiki Radford said Berea was not only getting a talented player, but a great student and person as well.

Bagwell chose Berea over Olney Central, Vincennes, and John A. Logan. She said she liked the school as soon as she visited.

Bagwell said she plans to study sports management in college.
