Region 2 Tennis Tournament champions will be crowned tonight at the Ruff Park tennis courts.
The girls’ completed quarterfinals play on Thursday night and one semifinal match was played.
University Heights Academy’s Allie Sandifer upset fourth-seed Paisley Hooks, of Caldwell County to advance. After falling 6-1 in the opening set, the fifth-seeded Sandifer battled back to win 6-6, 8-6.
Sandifer will play top seed Kiley Demoss, of Madisonville-North Hopkins in the semifinals. The other semifinal was played Thursday with second seed Josie Cardwell defeating Caldwell’s Ella Johnson 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles, Hopkins County Central’s Armour/Adams advanced to the championship match with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Caldwell County’s Jayden Lamb/Paysen Menser.
The other semifinal tonight will feature Madisonville’s Caydence Curry/Addyson Raymer against Caldwell County’s Freeman/Greenfield.
The boys’ tournament will resume tonight with UHA’s Stephen Whitecotton meeting Henderson County’s Jaxton Duncan in the semifinals. Whitecotton is the second seed and Duncan is a sixth seed.
The other semifinal will feature top seed Simone Amatoria, of Fort Campbell, against Madisonville’s Caleb Tagg.
In boys’ doubles, tonight’s semifinals include Madisonville’s Larkins/Heath against Henderson County’s team of Duncan/Duncan and Madisonville’s Mays/Pinkerton against Henderson County’s Troxel/Jenkins.
Play is expected to start around 4:30 p.m., today and the team tournament will now be played Monday night at Ruff Park.
All four players advancing to the semifinal round have qualified for the Section Tournament May 20 at South Warren High School.
