Last day for Riherds Scoreboard sad for fans, coaches, media

For everyone who counts on the Riherds Scoreboard to check scores, stats, and records for high school sports in Kentucky, Tuesday was a sad day.

Frank Riherd, who started and maintained the scoreboard on the Kentucky High School Athletics Association page since 1997, signed off and will no longer operate the page, which was unique to other states.

Riherd was diagnosed with ALS last November and he announced in January that he would stop maintaining the scoreboard page this month.

In January, Riherd said some of what he had developed has been transferred to another vendor. They chose not to implement key pieces. Some of those are important. Unfortunately, there is no replacement yet for RPI, Game Stats and Leaders, which require constant handholding.

Riherd said Tuesday, “I provided a useful tool, but it wouldn’t have amounted to much without coaches, players, parents, and the public supplying the data. Together, we built a database of over 650 thousand games with scores. The tool, plus the cooperation of all of you, made the magic.”

The KHSAA will keep the website of scores, rosters, and statistics online for historical reference.

It is unknown what, if anything, will be offered by the KHSAA as a replacement to the Riherds Scoreboard.
