My name is Clayton Sumner, and I am a proud husband to my wife Brooke and a devoted father to our two daughters, Alexis and Hannah.
Like many of you, my journey in Hopkinsville began with my parents, who arrived via Fort Campbell, seeking a place to call home and raise their family. They found it here, in this vibrant community, and instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility to give back to the place that has given us so much.
In 2002, I took my first steps toward fulfilling that responsibility by joining the Hopkinsville Police Department. For 21 years, I served with unwavering dedication, eventually rising to the role of Chief of Police—a position I held with pride for over eight years. Through this experience, I gained invaluable insight into the challenges and opportunities facing our city.
Retirement in August 2023 granted me a moment to reflect on my purpose, and it became abundantly clear—I missed serving the people of Hopkinsville.
My years of service to Hopkinsville have equipped me with more than just knowledge; they’ve instilled in me a deep understanding of municipal operations and fiscal management. As a former department head, I spearheaded the planning, development, and oversight of an $11 million budget—a responsibility I undertook with diligence. Additionally, my pursuit of a master’s degree in Public Administration from Murray State University further solidifies my commitment to Continuous self-improvement.
I am not a politician seeking power, but a devoted servant seeking to continue the work of building a brighter future for Hopkinsville.
If you seek a candidate with the proven expertise, hands-on experience, and educational background to further elevate Hopkinsville, I respectfully request your vote on Tuesday, May 21st for Clayton Sumner as your Republican Candidate for City Council Ward 7.
