Atchley steps down as CCHS football coach

The Ethan Atchley era of Christian County High School football is over.

Christian County High School announced in a news release today that it has accepted the resignation with the varsity football coach, effective immediately, before the midpoint of the 2025 season.

The Colonels, who are playing their final season of football before consolidating with Hopkinsville High School next fall, are 0-4. They were on a bye week last week and are scheduled to go to Caverna this Friday night.

Since 2017, Christian County is 10-69 and was 1-14 in a year-and-a-half under Atchley.

Atchley took over the Colonels’ program in January of 2024. He previously coached at Lexington Christian and Bullitt East. He is the fourth Colonels’ football coach in five seasons.

Atchley told WHOP Sports, “I appreciate the opportunity to have led the program and to work with the student athletes at Christian County. I wish the players, coaches and community nothing but the best moving forward!”

Assistant coach Kelly Myers will serve as the interim coach for the Colonels the remainder of the 2025 season. Myers brings more than two decades of coaching experience, highlighted by five state championship appearances, including a 2008 4A state title, and multiple playoff runs during his career in Tennessee
