With only three weeks from Friday the start of the 2026 high school football season, Christian County Public Schools Superintendent Chris Bentzel said he is confident the renovation to the football field surface will be finished in time for the first game.
Bentzel was a guest on Monday morning’s Early Bird Show and said the rain has slowed the work of installing turf at the Stadium of Champions. He said he remains optimistic that with some dry weather, the Christian County Tigers will be able to play host to Cooper High School on Aug. 21.
Anyone passing past the stadium has seen work being done removing grass and installing the gravel, leveling the surface, and getting the drainage system in place.
Despite his confidence that the field would be ready in time, Bentzel said school officials are in weekly contact with the Cooper officials in case the game has to be moved to the Jaguars’ stadium.
After the home opener on Aug. 21, the Tigers are scheduled to play the next four games on the road.
Christian County is scheduled to scrimmage Clarksville Northeast at the Tigers’ practice field behind Indian Hills Elementary School on Aug. 7. They also are scheduled to travel to scrimmage at Louisville DuPont Manual on Aug. 14.
