Big run carries Caldwell past HCA in shortened game

Caldwell County used a 34-0 run over two quarters to defeat host Heritage Christian Academy 63-16 in a boys’ high school basketball game halted in the third quarter.

The Tigers led 19-12 after one quarter but outscored the Warriors 32-0 in the second quarter to lead 51-12 at the halftime break.

Caldwell opened the second half with a bucket to push its lead to 53-12.

An injury to an HCA injury later in the third quarter stopped play and both coaches agreed to end the game at that point. HCA Coach Jeremy Leek said guard Nathan Wheatcraft suffered a knee injury that could keep him out at least a month.

Cadyn Travis and Jacob Morgan led the Warriors with five points each and Aaron Hensley added four.

HCA returns to action Saturday at 10:15 a.m. against Cornerstone Christian Academy and former HCA Head Coach Matt McGowan in the KCAC Tournament.
