Blazers fend off Falcons in All ‘A’ quarterfinals

University Heights Academy began its march toward a 26th Region 2 All “A” Boys’ Basketball Tournament championship on Tuesday night with a hard-fought 73-64 victory over host Fort Campbell.

The Blazers, who have also won eight Touchstone Energy All “A” State Tournament titles, advance to play Dawson Springs at 6 p.m. Friday in the semifinals at Fort Campbell. The Panthers knocked off Livingston Central 67-59 Tuesday night.

The game was close throughout but UHA was able to connect on eight of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the win. The Blazers made 16 of their 19 free chances in the game.

Hayden Hunt had 27 points and KeShawn Moore added 23 to lead the Blazers, who improved to 4-5 on the season. Nash McAfee added 13 points for UHA.

Defending tournament champion Lyon County will face Crittenden County in the second semifinal on Friday night. The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday on Post.
