Christian County led early, but host Owensboro Apollo used the play of 6-foot-10 center Landon Henning to defeat the Colonels 64-46 Thursday night in the boys’ basketball season opener for both teams.
Henning had 17 points including eight straight in a big Eagles run midway through the second quarter that saw them take an 18-point advantage.
The Colonels battled back drawing to within 46-38 late in the third quarter, however Apollo’s Kayden Green had three straight baskets in a run that saw the Eagles stretch the lead back out to 14.
Rahsean Stevenson battled foul trouble in the first half but finished with 15 points to lead Christian County. Henning had 17 and Green added 16 for Apollo. Tate Powers scored 10 for the Eagles.
Christian County is back in action tonight in a girls’/boys’ doubleheader at home against Clarksville Kenwood. Airtime for the Lady Colonels will be at 5:45 p.m. and the boys’ game will begin around 7:30 p.m on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
Tonight’s games are part of the CCHS basketball Alumni night. Anyone who has played basketball in the history of Christian County High School is encouraged to attend and be recognized at the game tonight.
An Alumni game is scheduled for Saturday afternoon in Lyle Dunbar Gym. Doors open at 2 p.m. Any former Lady Colonel or Colonel interested in playing in the game is asked contact Kortez Ivory.
