Colonels’ hot shooting cools off University Heights in district semifinals

The Christian County Colonels made 10 three-pointers and rolled past University Heights Academy 75-48 Tuesday night in the second Boys’ District 8 Basketball Tournament semifinal at Tiger Gym.

Jayovontae Henderson made three long-range shots in the first half and scored 15 of his 17 points for the Colonels, who improved to 13-12 on the season.

Foul trouble plagued the Blazers as leading scorer KeShawn Moore picked up three fouls before halftime and starting forward Hayden Hunt was whistled for two fouls in the opening minutes of the game, limiting his time in the first half.

Freshman Nash McAfee kept the Blazers in the game with a pair of 3-pointers and Moore had nine of his 15 points in the first half.

The Colonels led 41-25 at halftime, but led by the play of Hunt and Moore, the Blazers were able to cut the lead to five in the third quarter. However, Josh Bridges nailed a three-pointer and began a Christian County spurt that gave them a 53-39 lead after three quarters.

The Colonels never looked back from there.

Bridges had 11 of his 16 points in the second half. Darren Bigbee also connected on three 3-pointers and finished with 14 points for the Colonels, who advance to play Hopkinsville at 6 p.m. Friday night in the District 8 finals.

It will be the final game at Tiger Gym and could be the final boys’ basketball meeting between the Tigers and the Colonels, as they will consolidate into the Christian County Colonels in 2026-27.

Airtime for Friday’s game will be at 5:45 p.m. with the Christian County broadcast on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com. The Hopkinsville broadcast will be on Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP.
