The Christian County Colonels haven’t tasted a high school football victory since last October when they knocked off Daviess County 12-10 in Owensboro.
The Panthers enter the Stadium of Champions tonight as the homecoming opponent for the Colonels, who are on a seven-game losing streak and are 0-3 on the season. Daviess enters the game 1-2 with its only win a 45-0 victory over Russellville in the season opener.
Despite losing lopsided contests to highly-ranked squads Mayfield and McKenzie, Tenn., Christian County coach Ethan Atchley said his team has had some successful moments that let him know the team is getting better.
Atchley said to get a win tonight, the Colonels would have to control possession time by running the football.
Junior Deasian Harris has established himself as the Colonels’ top running back. He has run for nearly 160 yards the last two games. Zyon Wharton has caught 14 passes for 278 yards and three scores.
Meanwhile, the Christian County defense will have to stop Panthers’ quarterback Garrison Barker, who has thrown for 278 yards and rushed for 118 yards this season.
Christian County leads the series 12-6 including last year’s victory. Daviess County beat the Colonels 24-16 in 2023.
Homecoming festivities are scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m. with kickoff set for 7 p.m. Airtime is at 6:30 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
