Colonels lose regular season finale to Logan

Christian County saw its six-game winning streak come to an end Thursday night as host Logan County defeated the Colonels 76-68 in a boys’ high school basketball game.

The Colonels (12-12) could not stop the Cougars’ junior guard Davis Switzer, who scored 18 of his 33 points in the first quarter. He went 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the first half and finished the game making all 12 of his free throw attempts.

Both teams enjoyed small leads in the first half and the lead exchanged hands numerous times before the Cougars grabbed a 40-38 halftime advantage.

The third quarter belonged to the Colonels’ Rahsean Stevenson, who scored nine points to keep Christian County within striking distance.

However, Logan’s Maliq Ford was nearly as impressive with seven third-quarter points and the Cougars grabbed a 61-54 advantage entering the final period.

Switzer took over again in the fourth quarter and helped Logan take their biggest lead of 13 points late in the period.

The Cougars have won eight of their last nine games to improve to 18-10 on the year. Their only loss in the stretch was to No.1-ranked Daviess County.

Stevenson was the only Colonels’ player in double figures with 28 points. Zyon Wharton finished with nine.

It was the final regular season boys’ basketball game in school history for the Colonels, who will enter next week’s District 8 Tournament with a 12-12 record.
