Colonels’ rally falls short against Evangel Christian

The Christian County Colonels saw their two-game winning streak come to an end as they fell to Evangel Christian 66-62 in a boys’ basketball game Saturday afternoon at Tiger Gym.

Evangel Christian (2-2) jumped to a 17-5 lead and held a 21-11 lead after one quarter.

In the second half, the Colonels’ pressure defense began to cause problems for the Eagles. Christian County (2-2) got within five points twice in the third quarter, but trailed 50-39 after three quarters.

Behind the play of Zion Acree, Jay Henderson, and Stafford Winston, Christian County climbed to within four points, but that was as close as it would get.

Acree had 16 points and Henderson added 12 for the Colonels.

Evangel, who is coached by former Hopkinsville High School coach Larry Miller, were led by eighth grader Golden Dotson with 17 points and eighth grader Tyson Darko with 14 points.

The Colonels return to action Tuesday night at home against Bowling Green. The boys’ game will follow the girls’ game with airtime around 6:45 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
