Denton leads Hoppers past Flash, into semifinals

The Hoptown Hoppers are moving on to the Ohio Valley League semifinals after an 8-3 victory over the host Henderson Flash Sunday night in a playoff game.

Hoptown scored four runs in the fourth inning, with three of those on a three-base error off the bat of Myles Denton. The Hoptown third baseman later hit a solo home run.

Henderson took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a two-run home run by Haydon Jones. The Flash third baseman would later add a solo shot in the ninth.

Leading 4-2 entering the fifth inning, Gabe Eddington led off with a single and moved to third on an error. He would steal home to push the Hoptown lead to 5-2.

Denton’s homer in the sixth made it 6-2 and the Hoppers would add two more runs in the eighth as Konner Scheidt and Dom Bello scored on a two-run single by Eddington.

Owen Boswell pitched five innings and allowed three hits to pick up the win. Former Hopkinsville High School star Jacob Dilday went three innings of relief and did not allow a run.

Owen Hutcheson added a double and Eddington had three hits for Hoptown.

The Hoppers will play the top-seeded Full Count Rhythm in a best-of-three series beginning Tuesday in Hendersonville, Tenn. Airtime for the game will be at 6:50 p.m. on 95.3 the Farm and 953thefarm.com.

Meanwhile, in the other playoff game on Sunday, Fulton got a walk-off 5-4 win over Madisonville to move on to play No. 2 seed Paducah in a best-of-three semifinal series, which will begin Tuesday in Paducah.
