Host Whitesville Trinity scored quickly against Heritage Christian Academy and came away with a 12-2, five-inning win in their KCAC State Baseball Tournament first-round game Friday afternoon.
The Raiders took advantage of four HCA errors and four hits to score eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Grant Howard tripled and Nate Terry doubled as big hits in the inning for Trinity.
Another HCA error in the bottom of the second helped the Raiders scratch out another run for a 9-0 lead after two innings.
Collin Outland had a double to score Cadyn Travis as the Warriors trimmed the lead to 9-1 in the top of the third.
But Trinity pushed its lead to 10-1 in the bottom of the third.
The Warriors scored another run in the top of the fourth as Henry Bullard scored on a pop out. Bullard singled to lead off the inning and moved to third after a groundout by Tycen Wells and a single by Preston Haddock.
Solo runs by Trinity in the fourth and fifth ended the game in five innings and put an end to HCA’s state title run.
The Warriors slip to 5-8 on the season and will play Foundation Christian at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
