Ewing leads Lady Tigers past FCHS into district final

Hopkinsville broke a 14-game losing streak and earned a bid to the Girls’ District 8 Basketball Tournament title game with a 74-43 victory over Fort Campbell on Monday night in Tiger Gym.

The two teams exchanged leads several times in the first four minutes of the game before the Tigers opened up a 14-11 lead after one quarter.

Hoptown then scored the first 21 points of the second quarter and took control of the game, holding the Lady Falcons (3-12) to only two points in the period. Fort Campbell connected on one of 13 shots in the second quarter and Hopkinsville led 39-13 at halftime.

The Lady Tigers were never challenged the rest of the way.

Serenity Ewing scored 25 points and Kaveyah White added 15 for the Lady Tigers, who improved to 2-17 on the season. Faniya White added 12 for Hoptown, who will play Christian County in the district final at 6 p.m. Thursday night at HHS.

Fort Campbell was led by Amari Grimsley’s 24 points.

Tipoff for the championship game is set for 6 p.m. with airtime set for 5:45 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
