Former Christian County High School assistant basketball coach Tris Kingston passed away on Monday in Franklin, Ky., according to a Facebook post from the Union County Kentucky Watch.
Kingston was an assistant coach with the Colonels under head coach Lyle Dunbar in the mid-1970s.
He was hired as Union County’s head coach in 1977 and coached the Braves through the 1990 season. According to statistics provided by former Henderson Gleaner Sports Editor Kevin Patton, Kingston had a 181-184 record at Union.
Kingston’s 1980 Union County team went 28-5 and won the Region 2 championship while advancing to the state semifinals where they fell to Louisville Doss 45-44.
Kingston also went on to coach at Portland, Tenn., High School where he coached future Florida star and NBA player Corey Brewer.
He also coached at Franklin-Simpson High School.
Funeral services for Kingston were not known as of Tuesday morning.
