The Christian County Lady Colonels gave Henderson County all they wanted for nearly three quarters. But the northernmost Lady Colonels finally pulled away in the second half and took a 51-40 victory over Christian County Tuesday night in a girls’ high school basketball game at Lyle Dunbar Gym.
Christian County (7-7) trailed 19-15 late in the first half but went on an 8-0 run to close the second quarter to stun Henderson and lead 23-19 at the break.
However, Henderson (12-5) turned up the defense in the third quarter. After the teams traded baskets for the first several minutes, Henderson County went on a late run and took a 40-36 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Behind the play of sophomore Maggie Melvin, Henderson pushed its lead to 10 and held that advantage most of the quarter.
Anaysia Bagwell led Christian County with 15 points. Atilia Green had 17 and Addy Gish had 13 for Henderson.
Christian County returns to action Friday night as part of a girls’/boys’ doubleheader with Hopkinsville in Tiger Gym. The girls’ game will start at 6 p.m. The Christian County broadcast can be heard at 5:45 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
