Henderson County made a 14-0 run in the first quarter stand up and eliminated Christian County 52-39 Wednesday night in the Boys’ Region 2 Basketball Tournament quarterfinals at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School.
Christian County led 4-3 early, but Henderson began the run that ended with a 17-4 lead with 1:06 to play in the opening quarter.
Christian County narrowed the gap to 31-21 at halftime and had several chances to get as close as six points in the second half.
Christian County was able to get within 35-28 with 2:38 to go, but Henderson pushed the lead back out to 39-28 entering the fourth quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, Christian County was able to get as close as eight with a chance to get closer. However, each time Christian County made a run, Henderson County was able to answer.
Led by the play of Xavion Johnson and Braden Williams, the northernmost Colonels led by as many as 15 points in the fourth quarter.
Rahsean Stevenson led Christian County with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jayovontae Henderson added nine points.
Johnson paced Henderson County with 14 points and Amare Stewart added 12.
Henderson County (25-4), which won for the 14th straight time, advances to play Hopkins County Central in Monday night’s 6 p.m. semifinals. The Storm blew out Livingston Central 98-51 in the second game Wednesday.
For Christian County, the loss ended not only its season at 13-14, but also the program as the school will close and a new school will open for the 2026-27 season.
