HOPKINSVILLE, KY (February 26, 2024). On Monday, Hopkinsville High School announced Dustin Lopez as Head Coach for the Hopkinsville High School Tiger football team. Lopez is a graduate of Hopkinsville High and has served as an assistant football coach with the Tigers for the past 10 years.

“We are pleased to welcome Coach Lopez as our head football coach,” said HHS Principal Cindy Campbell. “Coach Lopez has always displayed a level of enthusiasm for the game and been a positive role model in our schools for our students. We have no doubt Coach Lopez will do a PHENOMENAL job in leading the Tiger Football program.”

Following a successful playing career at Hopkinsville High, Lopez went on to play at Minnesota West Community College where he was named Junior College All-American Honorable Mention. Lopez later transferred to University of Memphis where he played from 2004-2006, starting in 18 of 31 games. Following his college playing career, Coach Lopez continued his football journey, playing three years of Arena Football for three different teams.  Coach Lopez brings 16 years of coaching experience to the position with stops in Tennessee and Kentucky. He was named the Metro-Nashville Assistant Coach of the Year by the Tennessee Tribune in 2015 and has numerous district, regional, and state tournament coaching appearances.

“It has been a dream of mine since I graduated HS to one day get an opportunity to be a Head Coach,” said Coach Lopez. “To be able to do it at a place that is as special to me as Hopkinsville is truly amazing. I am so honored to be chosen to lead this historic program with such a rich tradition on the gridiron and such a proud alumni base. My goal is to make our former tigers proud and to make sure our student athletes give themselves every opportunity to achieve greatness, first and foremost academically and secondly in athletics. I will give you my all for the next 2 years as we close this chapter, but Tiger pride will live forever.”
