Hopkinsville holds off Owensboro in nail biter

The Hopkinsville Tigers kept host Owensboro winless on the high school basketball season by claiming a 46-45 boys’ high school basketball victory over the Red Devils on Tuesday night.

The two teams were tied 24-24 at halftime and both teams continued to struggle offensively in the second half.

The Tigers led 37-33 after three quarters and then held off the Red Devils (0-9) in the final period.

Jonovan Leavell had 14 points to lead the Tigers, who improved to 8-7 on the season.

The Tigers return to action Friday night at Christian County in a District 8 game. It will be the final matchup between the two schools at Lyle Dunbar Gym. The boys’ game will be around 7:45 p.m. with airtime set for 7:30 p.m. on Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP.
