Hopkinsville’s Wilson signs with Volunteer State

In front of friends, family, and teammates Monday afternoon, Hopkinsville High School’s LaShanti Wilson signed a letter-of-intent to play basketball next year at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tenn.

Wilson, who scored nearly 590 points in her career despite missing her sophomore year after tearing her ACL, said Vol State seemed like the right fit for her for many reasons.

The 5-foot-5 point guard began playing varsity basketball at Hoptown as a seventh grader and was a contributing member on three District 8 championship teams and a region semifinalist in 2024.

Christopher Moses, who has Hopkinsville and Clarksville connections, will be in his first season as an assistant coach in 2025-26 at Vol State. He said he has known LaShanti since she was in middle school and is excited to have recruited her to the Pioneers’ program.

Hopkinsville High School Head Coach Keith Leslie said he also has known her since she was a small child. He said Vol State is getting a quality player.

Wilson was second on the Lady Tigers’ squad in scoring last season at 12.7 points per game. She also connected on 30 percent of her 3-point shots last season.
