Hoppers eager to start the 2025 season

While the community will get to “Meet the Hoppers” tonight at Casey Jones Distillery, the team has been practicing most of this week getting ready for Saturday night’s season opener at Henderson.

Hoppers Head Coach Chris Benne said Thursday that the team is excited to get the season underway.

The Hoppers finished 17-22 last season and were fourth in the five-team standings. They were eliminated by Fulton in the playoff game.

Benne, who was an assistant coach last season, said he thinks this team has the potential to be successful this summer and he likes what he has seen so far in practice.

The Hoppers will include several local players on the team including former Hopkinsville High School and Heritage Christian Academy pitcher J.J. Thompson, former Hopkinsville High School star Gavin Powell, and former Trigg County High School star Aidon Butts.

The team will play all of its home games at Christian County High School this summer.

The wooden bat college baseball league will include six teams this summer as Full Count Rhythm has rejoined the league. Other teams include Henderson, the 2024 tournament champion, Madisonville, Fulton, Hopkinsville, and Paducah.

The teams will play a 40-game schedule that begins Saturday night and runs through the middle of July and concludes with a tournament at the end of July.

Tonight’s “Meet the Hoppers” event is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
