Hoptown, County gear up for final battle at Lyle Dunbar Gym

While all the focus on tonight’s Hoptown-County boys’ basketball game has been on the last game to be played between the rivals on the Colonels’ home floor, one thing hasn’t been lost on both head coaches. Tonight’s winner could be in the driver’s seat for the top seed in next month’s District 8 Tournament.

Christian County Head Coach Dior Curtis said the rivalry is important, but his team is focused on getting a District 8 win.

The boys’ game will follow a ceremony introducing the 2026 CCHS Hall of Fame Class after the girls’ game.

Hopkinsville Head Coach Anthony Babb, who played for and graduated from Christian County, said tonight’s game will mean a lot to the community.

Christian County enters tonight’s game 6-5 overall and will be playing their first district game of the season. Hopkinsville is 8-7 and 1-0 in district play.

Babb said you can throw out the records when the Tigers and Colonels meet.

Christian County is led by junior forward Rahsean Stevenson, who leads the Colonels in scoring (15.7 points) and rebounding (9.8) per game.

Curtis said the Tigers have a lot of weapons to be concerned about.

Christian County has won seven of the last nine meetings in the rivalry including the 2025 District 8 Tournament championship. Hoptown defeated the Colonels in Lyle Dunbar Gym last year 52-41.

Fans are reminded of the no bag policy and elementary and middle school students must have an adult accompany them to the game.
