The Hopkinsville High School track team opened up its 2026 outdoor season on Saturday at the Henderson County Invitational.
Hoptown took fifth place out of 20 teams in the boys’ division and were led by their relay teams.
The 4×800-meter relay team of LaMareon Jeffers, Carlo Jones, Tyson Cavinder, and Savior Davis took first in 9:02.10.
The 4×200-meter relay team of Jaylen Ray, Willie Ennels, Keyshun Teal, and T.J. Thomas took first in 1:33.78. The 4×400-meter relay team of Ray, Ennels, Jones, and Davis also won with a time of 3:41.19.
Individually for the Tigers, Teal won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.61 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 42.88 seconds. Kayden Humphrey ran an impressive 110-meter hurdles race, finishing third in 17.71. Thomas Laliberte was third in the 300-meter hurdles in 46.40 and Humphrey was fourth in 46.69.
Davis won the 800-meter run in 2:09.37 and Cavinder earned a top-10 finish in the 1,600-meter run, taking ninth in 5:03.34.
Jones finished eighth in the 400-meter dash in 55.92 seconds and Jefferson took seventh place in the 800-meter run in 2:18.11.
Ennels grabbed a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.78 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers also finished fifth out of 20 teams and they were led by several impressive individual performances.
Alexis Herrera-Lovato took first place in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:33.44.
Senior Grace Cansler earned a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash and an eight-place finish in the 200-meter dash.
Hoptown’s Leaunna Wilkerson crossed the 100-meter hurdles finish line in seventh place in 19:03 and Ollia Dixon was eighth in 19.55.
Kaniya Grundy Jackson was seventh in the 300-meter hurdles in 55.26 seconds and Dixon was ninth in 57.12. Wilkerson took 10th in 57.55.
Chandni Jones picked up a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 25-feet, 6.5 inches.
Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers’ relay teams had a successful weekend.
The 4×200-meter relay team of Cansler, Jayla Brunson, Wilkerson, and Saukuuipo Esteban finished third in 2:01. Hoptown’s 4×100-meter girls’ relay team also took third place in 55.24.
The Lady Tigers’ 4×800-meter relay team earned a bronze finish with a time of 4:47.25. The team consisted of Cansler, Herrera-Lovato, and Grundy Jackson.
