Lady Colonels secure top seed in District 8

The Christian County Lady Colonels secured the top seed in the District 8 girls’ basketball standings and also earned a spot in the Region 2 tournament next month by dispatching host Fort Campbell 59-14 Monday night.

Anaysia Bagwell and Lazarie Daniel each scored 15 points, had seven rebounds, and seven steals and Carlie Hobson added 12 points for the Lady Colonels, who improved to 14-8 overall and 3-0 in district play.

Christian County came out hot in the first quarter as Bagwell had 11 of her points and helped the Lady Colonels grab a 30-8 advantage. Daniel had nine of her points in the quarter.

The lead was pushed to 45-9 at halftime.

Christian County played most of the second half with its reserves and held the Lady Falcons to only five points while scoring 14 with the running clock in effect.

Ne’Vaeh Day, the Lady Colonels’ leading scorer and rebounder on the season, did not play while nursing an ankle injury she suffered against Hopkinsville on Friday night.

Amari Grimsley and Risella Rajj each had five points to lead the Lady Falcons (3-10, 1-1), who have lost four straight games.

Christian County is scheduled to play at Warren Central tonight as part of a girls’/boys’ doubleheader. Fort Campbell is back in action Thursday at Community Christian.
