The Christian County Lady Colonels’ volleyball team is back in a familiar spot after sweeping past Fort Campbell 3-0 Tuesday night in the District 8 Volleyball Tournament semifinals at University Heights Academy.
It is the fifth straight year that the Lady Colonels will play for the district championship. The last four years, they have lost to University Heights Academy. However, the Lady Colonels will meet Heritage Christian Academy in this year’s title game at 6 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Warriors defeated UHA 3-1 in the second semifinal game Tuesday.
Christian County (12-17), the top seed in this year’s tournament, had little trouble with the Lady Falcons (8-11).
Early in the first set, the two teams were tied numerous times before a 4-0 run by the Lady Colonels forced a Fort Campbell timeout.
The break didn’t help as Christian County extended its lead to 19-12 on the way to a 25-18 win.
In the second set, the Lady Colonels jumped out to a 4-1 advantage and they never trailed in the set. A 7-1 run put the set out of reach as they won 25-15.
Christian County opened the third set on a 17-0 run and went on to win 25-3.
The Lady Colonels will be seeking their first district tournament championship since 2015. Christian County and HCA have split their two meetings this season with the Lady Colonels winning 3-1 in August and the Lady Warriors claiming a 3-0 win last month.
Both teams will advance to next week’s Region 2 tournament at Hopkinsville High School.
