Lady Cols secure Senior Night win in 11-inning thriller

The Christian County Lady Colonels wanted to make their Senior Night a night to remember. Mission accomplished.

Senior Jayda Turner drew a bases-loaded walk with bases loaded and scored Alondra Rodriguez to secure a 9-8, 11-inning high school softball win over visiting Muhlenberg County Monday night.

After celebrating Senior Night activities, which the media weren’t notified about, the Lady Colonels erupted for three runs in the bottom of the first and another in the third to take a 4-0 lead.

However, the Lady Mustangs struck for two runs in the fourth and sixth to tie the game at 4-4. Both teams scored twice in the eighth ining and they made it to the final inning tied at 6-6.

After Muhlenberg scored twice to take an 8-6 advantage, senior Alyssa Petterson started off the inning at second base on the International tie-breaker rule. Chloe Almy singled her home and moved to second on a base hit by Rodriguez.

Talyn Ezell tied the game at 8-8 on a double and Alexis Epps was intentionally walked to load the bases and set up the dramatic ending.

Rodriguez finished 3-for-3 on the night while Petterson, Almy, and Ezell each had two hits. Epps drove in a pair of runs.

Jordan Turner picked up the pitching win, going the distance with 11 strikeouts on 167 pitches.

Christian County improved to 17-9-2 on the season and is scheduled to play host to Calloway County at 6 p.m. today.
