Leek earns HCA scoring honor; Warriors drop 2

Heritage Christian Academy’s basketball team dropped a pair of games in the St. Mary Christmas Classic over the weekend, but senior guard Jason Leek left his mark on Warriors basketball.

Leek scored 29 points in a 73-40 loss to Carlisle County Friday night and surpassed Carlos Robles as the all-time leading scorer at HCA. Robles, the 2023 KCAA Mr. Basketball, finished his career with 1,756 points. Leek’s 29 points gave him 1,771.

He increased that total with a 37-point performance Saturday in an 81-61 loss to Livingston Central.

Against Carlisle County, the Warriors fell behind 27-6 after one quarter and never challenged the Comets. Leek had 10 rebounds in the game to lead HCA.

Against Livingston Central, the Warriors trailed only 19-14 after one quarter and 38-27 at halftime. The Cardinals were able to push the lead to 61-44 entering the final quarter.

Leek added 13 rebounds and five assists in the game.

HCA slipped to 1-7 on the season and return to action at noon today against Crittenden County in their final game of the St. Mary Christmas Classic.
