MAC event teams local prep bowlers with military families

Children of military families at Fort Campbell got the opportunity to bowl and get some tutoring from local high school bowlers during a Christian County Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee event Tuesday at Southern Lanes.

MAC Director Shannon Lane said this is the second event like this. Last year, the event was held in January, but it was moved to April this year to give the new military families in the area a chance to get to know their new community.

Lane, who served at Fort Campbell, said he wants people to get to know Christian County and make it a home after leaving the Army.

Nearly 60 kids participated in the event Tuesday.

Also in attendance were Oak Grove Mayor Jackie Oliver and Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight, who had a bowl off, although neither would say who won.

Christian County Judge Executive Jerry Gilliam also was in attendance.
