Marshall County took advantage of six Hopkinsville errors and held off a furious comeback attempt to defeat the host Tigers 3-1 Monday in a high school baseball game.
The Marshals took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, taking advantage of a pair of walks and two Hoptown errors.
The Tigers drew within 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth as Layton Lindsey’s single scored Griffen Meacham.
An error in the top of the sixth allowed the leadoff runner on and a passed ball and wild pitch helped the Marshals take a 3-1 advantage.
However, Hopkinsville loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh. But Marshall County relief pitcher Kannon Dunn got a strikeout and a fielder’s choice to end the game.
Andrew Mayes suffered the pitching loss and led the Tigers at the plate with a pair of singles. Gavin Powell added a triple for Hoptown.
Mayes and Powell limited the Marshals to only three hits on the day.
Hopkinsville, which saw its four-game winning streak come to an end, falls to 9-7 on the season and is off until Friday when the Tigers play host to Christian County in a District 8 game. Airtime for the game is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm.
