Mayes, Tigers shut out Muhlenberg County

Andrew Mayes tossed a complete game one-hitter and the Hopkinsville Tigers got back to .500 on the season with a 4-0 high school baseball win over visiting Muhlenberg County Tuesday night.

Mayes struck out six and walked four while improving his record to 3-2 on the season.

Hoptown (6-6) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning taking advantage of two hits and an error by the Mustangs. The bit hits in the inning were singles by Gavin Mitchell and Deuce Embrey.

The Tigers pushed two more runs across in the bottom of the fifth inning using three singles and a double by Chase Fort.

That was more than enough run support for Mayes, who retired nine of the last 12 batters he faced.

Fort and Embrey both had a pair of hits to lead the Tigers’ nine-hit attack. Mayes also helped himself at the plate with a double.

Hopkinsville returns to action Thursday at Fort Campbell in a District 8 game.
