The Hopkinsville Tigers struggled at the plate on Monday against the Daviess County Panthers and dropped a 4-1, six-inning high school baseball game in Fort Walton, Fla.
Chase Fort and Griffen Meacham each had a pair of hits, but Hoptown only had five singles in the game.
The Tigers (2-3) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Fort singled and moved to third base on a sacrifice by Gavin Powell. Fort scored when the Panthers mishandled a bunt by Gavin Mitchell.
However, Daviess County scored twice in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead. The big hit was a triple by Gavin Howard.
Daviess County added solo runs in the bottom of the second and fifth innings to take the 4-1 win in a game shortened due to weather.
Mitchell suffered the pitching loss for Hopkinsville. He went 3 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs, six hits and two walks while striking out three.
The Tigers are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday with games against Talawanda, Ohio at 9 a.m. and Louisville Male at noon.
