Pitching powers Hoppers past Paducah, 7-3

The Hoptown Hoppers used another strong pitching performance and some timely hitting to knock off the visiting Paducah Chiefs 7-3 Friday night in OVL baseball.

Cody Jones, Gabe Eddington, and Jacob Dilday teamed to toss a four-hitter as Hoptown improved to 13-19 on the season. Jones started and went 4 1/3 innings. Eddington and Dilday teamed to go 4 2/3 innings and only allowed two hits the rest of the way.

The Chiefs (18-14) scored two runs in the first inning using a pair of hits and walks. Javin Gauthier had a two-run single in the frame.

The Hoppers put five on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth using four walks and two Paducah errors.

After Paducah scored a run in the top of the fifth, the Hoppers bounced back with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Carson Tucker had a RBI-single in the frame.

Tucker finished 2-for-3 on the night to lead Hoptown at the plate.

The Hoppers return to action Saturday night at Fulton in a doubleheader. The first game gets started at 5 p.m. in a game that will resume in the bottom of the third with the Railroaders leading 1-0. The second game will be a seven-inning game.
