Portland holds off Lady Colonels in Holiday Classic

Portland, Tenn., jumped out to a 17-5 first-quarter lead and then held off Christian County 59-51 Thursday night in a girls’ high school basketball game at Hopkinsville High School.

Genesis McGee helped rally the Lady Colonels to within four twice in the third quarter, but Gourchiek Mut pushed the lead back to 46-36 after three quarters. The Lady Colonels got as close as five points in the final period of the second game of the Toyota of Hopkinsville Holiday Hoops Classic.

McGee led Christian County (2-1) with 15 points. Carliah Hobson added 11 and Anaysia Bagwell had 10 for the Lady Colonels, who return to action Saturday against host McCracken County in the McCracken County Holiday Hoops Classic.

Mut led the Lady Panthers (6-4) with 22 points and Nyaluak Pal added 16.
